Swedish authorities on Thursday accused a young man holding both Swedish and Syrian citizenship of plotting a suicide bombing at a crowded cultural festival in Stockholm. He was arrested in a covert operation as he was allegedly planning the attack for the terrorist organization ISIS.
The arrest was carried out in secret. According to the prosecution, the suspect planned to detonate an explosive device in a densely populated area, which could have resulted in numerous casualties. Authorities consider this case a serious threat to national security.
The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, was arrested as part of an investigation into the activities of terrorist groups. The investigation claims that he received instructions from ISIS leaders and was in the process of preparing to carry out the attack.
