Queen Silvia Unable to Join State Visit due to Illness

The family of Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden announced that Carl's wife, Silvia, cannot participate in the scheduled state visit to Singapore due to her being infected with a severe respiratory infection.

"Silvia, with a sense of regret, was waiting for this trip, but she decided to stay in Sweden to avoid the risk of infecting others, taking into account the interests of the hosts and accompanying delegation," the family added.

Originally from the House of Heidberg in Germany, Silvia married Carl Gustav in 1976, and Carl XVI Gustaf has been the King of Sweden since 1973. Members of the royal family of Sweden intended to visit Singapore to strengthen relations with this island nation in Southeast Asia.

During the trip, the king will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Margot Wallström, as well as a business delegation.
