The Swedish government has called on the European Union to reconsider agreements with Cuba due to systemic violations of human rights on the island.
"We must be clear about our values, and when they are violated in our agreements, we must be ready to take action," said Sweden's Foreign Minister Ann Linde in an interview with P1 radio.
Her statement followed the news of a scheduled meeting next week of the EU Council with the regional group of countries AACP, to which Cuba belongs.
"Regarding [the agreement] with Cuba, I believe that human rights violations have occurred to such an extent that we need to adhere to what the Swedish government says," Linde emphasized.
She added that this will be discussed at the EU Council meeting, which will take place on June 25.
