According to reports from Sweden, on Thursday it was announced that the country intends to send up to eight Gripen fighters to support NATO in Lithuania. A representative of the Swedish Air Force stated that this is an important part of NATO exercises taking place in the Baltic countries to ensure the security of the region. It is proposed that the Gripen fighters will be deployed at the Lithuanian airbase Šiauliai and will remain there until the end of February. "We are ready to deploy, we have conducted similar exercises last year, so we have experience," noted a military representative. This decision was made in response to the rising tensions in the region after the armed conflict in Eastern Ukraine.
